Zoey's Frozen Birthday Bash

Zoey's third birthday party was so different from the first two birthday parties.  I called all the shots on the first two parties.  This year I was in for a big surprise.  Little Miss Zoey had an opinion on everything.  From the invitations to the cake to the outfit.

She first picked an Octonauts theme for the party.  We did some searching on Etsy and found a few cute items, but nothing was very girly.  I was a bit disappointed, but I rolled with it.  Then Nana came to visit and they watched Frozen about a thousand times in one weekend!  By the time Nana left, she had Zoey convinced that she must have a Frozen party.  I must admit this Mommy was happy!  I would have thrown the best Octonauts party around if that's what she wanted, but I was so much happier to plan a Frozen party.

We started with the perfect invitation search.  I narrowed it down to a top 3 and then let Zoey pick.  She was surprisingly very decisive.  The instant the second option popped up, she said that one!  I don't think the third contender ever had a chance.  Next up, was the Etsy search for the perfect Frozen birthday outfit.  Zoey picked out just about the frilliest one!!  I'm not sure how she was able to do any flips in all that tulle, but she managed!

Zoey decided back in February that her party was going to be at The Little Gym, where she attends a weekly gymnastics class.  We had so much fun.  We had about 10 little kids at the party and they all had a blast running and playing in the gym.

I found a little bake shop called Beth's Sweet Shoppe in Nicholasville.  Beth is amazing!  The cake was not only gorgeous, but it also tasted fabulous.  Zoey was so thrilled with it.  She didn't want to cut it at first, but then decided she really wanted to eat it!  The strawberry top layer was amazing.  The bottom layer was chocolate.  It was also very good, but strawberry was hands down the crowd favorite!
I highly recommend www.thesweetshoppebybeth.com if you are looking for a reasonably priced masterpiece of a cake like we had for our Frozen birthday bash.  A few of the places I called here in Lexington wanted nearly double what Beth charged.  Our beautiful Frozen cake was the crowning moment of this excellent birthday adventure!

The Elmo Party!

Zoey just turned 2!  It's hard for me to believe that she's already 2.  Like lots of two year olds, she thinks the world revolves around Elmo.  So picking a theme for her birthday party was pretty easy, even though she doesn't know what the word theme means.  I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect decorations to make her Elmo party a little more girly.  I ordered most of our decorations from www.partycity.com/Elmo.  My favorite decoration was the large Sesame Street scene that we used to take pictures of all the adorable party guests and their furry friends!

I had a lot of fun creating Elmo, Oscar the Grouch and Cookie Monster themed fruit and veggie trays.  I found this idea on Pinterest and wasn't really sure if I would be able to pull it off myself.  I am not the most crafty mommy around!  But with a little bit of patience and looking at Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch pictures several times on my phone, I succeeded!  It was almost a shame to eat them!

I used about 2 quarts of strawberries (halved), three packages of blueberries, two packages of blackberries, three bundles of broccoli, and one small bag of carrots to create these three characters.  The eyes are small white cups filled with fruit dip or veggie dip in Oscar's case.  These were a definite hit at the party.  Lots of our party guests were pulling out their phones to take pictures!

We also had cake, cupcakes, and cookies.  I mean it's a Sesame Street party, Cookie Monster wouldn't approve if we didn't have cookies!
